Blackberry Curve 8330

Those of you who know me, know I would not have traded my Palm device unless I was really frustrated. Well I was.If you read my previous post “PALM…Get A Clue!!!” you are aware that as of this writing Palm doesn’t support 64 BIT Vista for USB Hot Sync and there is no support in sight. When you are trying to run a business and you cannot keep your PDA up to date it gets very frustrating. I contacted someone I know that works for Palm and got the same answer, “There is no support for hotsyncing with 64 Bit Vista.” After going around and around for what seems like an eternity I headed down to the Verizon Dealer and looked at the Smart Phones that were available.

I considered getting a Treo that runs Windows Mobile, but the store did not have one. Then I decided that a BlackBerry would be the best bet, it’s close to palm in that you can sync your calendar, contacts and memos to the device, but I also find it is just a little more powerful than the Treo or eve the new Centro. I decided on the Blackberry Curve 8330.

Ive been using the BlackBerry Curve 8330 for approximately 3 months and now is the time to review it.  I’m going to discuss each part seperatly.

  • Phone — As a phone it works great with or without a headset. I do have a Bluetooth headset that I use with it and the reception without the headset is as clear as it is with the headset.
  • Email & IM — E-mail is easy to set up and retrieve. I have both my personal home e-mail and my business e-mail set to be sent to the unit. IM requires a seperate download and that will be reviewed at a later date.
  • Built-in GPS Capabilities — I have not had to use this feature as I have a seperate GPS unit that I use. I have used the Maps app that comes on the device but that that does not work like a GPS.

Camera (2.0 MP) — The camera is one of the features I use alot. It is not only a 2.0 MP camera it has 1X, 3X & 5X zoom and a flash. Picture quality is wonderful as you can see by this shot.

  • Video Recording — The video recording is as good as any webcam but requires a Micro SD card to use it.
  • Multimedia Player — I have not had a chance to use the Multimedia player yet.
  • Browser — The browser is alot better than the browser used in the Palm Devices. For a browser used in a handheald device this is one of the best.

I have had no problem syncing to both my desktop computer and my laptop computer. My instant recomendation is if you are looking for a new Smart Phone then you cannot go wrong wiith the BlackBerry Curve 8330.

I probably will not hear back from you,But,I will try this. I own a Blackberry Curve titanuim 8330. I do not have the internet. My son who is married ,has a baby, a wife, and much responsibilities, does it all, but I still pay for his phone. So, I have a GREAT plan with Cellular South! But, I want to keep helping him, just this little bit. So, I have laptops and computers at home, but not on my Blackberry. I am NOT dying to although,I would like to. My question to you is, is there anyway! anyway at all I could get games, simple ones like say checkers, pacman, etc. on my phone? And please—do not say deskmanager,That thing is NOT worth it;s weight in gold or anything else! I do have a cable and have ,don’t ask me how, have loaded some music. Then Im always going how in the H did I do that???! Pardon me, I am a lady, but I just cannot figure some of this out yet. I have not had it long. Always had a good phone, but I wanted a Blackberry. I just wanted to see if since you are a bigwheel, being a CEO and all -just kidding! Could you please help me and give me some understandable and easy info on games, and I would love some like icons for my desktop. I am a pricy, princess. HA,no,really I love pink and pretty things and love to make my Blackberry look “cool”. I have a black skin and now it is dressed in a pink skin. When I can I want a whie, and some other colors. I love my phone. Hope you do not mine telling me a little about how to load or get simple games and icons of them for my desktop, since I do not have the internet. The way I also am trying to look at this is, I am traveling on the roads in town, paying bills, etc. I have my two American Bulldogs in the 2007 van with me and most of the time, my beautiful new ,six month old Grandson,John Kaleb in there too, my son is just turned twenty and my daughter-in-law just turned 17, so I am kind a the second mom? HA! So, I am very busy driving, why would I want to be working on the internet then??? Then when I am paying bills, I cannot go ummm hold on,I have to download this! Then when I eat lunch out everyday I want to eat! At home with our two laptops and two desktops, I even have little time for them, but I love them. I would like it on my phone, but,I love the plan I have now! OK, well, now that you have my life history, would you maybe have a few minutes you could let me know about possibilities of simple games, on my phone with icons to go with them. Thanks lots! Chrystal

  2. Chrystal, The only place I can think of to go to for BlackBerry Apps, other than deskmanager is Handandgo.com. Here is a link to the Checkers game: http://tw5.us/aE or just visit Handandgo.com for more games.

AS to personalizing your Blackberry I have seen kiosks in my local mall that have Skins and the like, my daughter even gt a pink skin at the Verizon Store for her Blackberry even though she uses Tmobile.
